Mecha Memories: Farewell to the Gundam Factory

M

I found out that apparently the Gundam Factory had finally shut down 🙁

I’m just so grateful I got to see it back when I had visited Japan during Cherry Blossom season last year. I did find it strange how empty their gift shop was and felt a bit disappointed I wasn’t able to pick up any localized model kits as I had *really* been looking forward to it. But I guess it makes sense since they were planning to shutter anyway. Oh, and a sweet memory — there were these two very young kids lined up with us to go see the giant Gundam up close. They might’ve been siblings? Anyway, they asked us to help take pictures of them and it was the cutest thing ever! I was thankful for that opportunity. I hope the kids had a wonderful time as they seemed so excited and so was I. They were definitely a highlight of the event!

Idk why but I’ve always loved Gundams as a child even though I don’t even watch the anime lol. The only movie I watched was Endless Waltz and I loved it a lot! To me, Gundams are like really cool Legos and since I seem to have an affinity towards robots, mecha, and building things, it makes sense why I love them so much. I remember starting with the entry level kits and building my way up to more difficult ones. Each one cooler than the last. Unfortunately, these days I seem to just be a collector and haven’t built too many. My collection has been growing and I feel like I need a warehouse to store them all lol. Perhaps I should get back into building them one day. We’ll see.

This used to be one of my favorite songs:

I actually had zero idea what the lyrics meant and just vibed with the song. I recently looked up the lyrics and was fascinated. It’s so wild how the lyrics are so… apropos to my own feelings, almost like it speaks from my heart. It was nice to listen to this again, brought back fond memories.
