I was looking through some emails the other day and saw this figurine that caught my attention. I’m a huge Dragon Ball Z fan and always loved the series and most things related to it. But as I looked at the photos of this product, one in particular caught my eye. Then my imagination fired off. I could already imagine the meeting that went on for this beautiful display of a product.
Product Development Manager: “We need to include Krillin’s Scattering Energy Wave attack to differentiate from other figures in the line.”
Industrial Designer: Creates initial sculpt with large energy effect
Product Development Manager: “The plastic costs are too high with that much translucent material. Can we reduce the size by 40%?”
Industrial Designer: Revises to smaller scattering energy attack
Brand Manager: “The energy effect needs to show impact! Make sure the final blast has some visual punch. This is a key selling feature!”
Industrial Designer: “Got it!”
Production Manager: “That energy stream is using too much material and affecting our margins. We need to shorten the length.”
Industrial Designer: Shortens the effect “How’s this?”
Marketing Director (to the Product Photographer): “I want you to capture this energy blast at *this* specific angle. Really showcase that dynamic action pose!”
Product Photographer: “Uh… are you absolutely sure about this angle…?”
Marketing Director: “Yes!!! That angle shows the full energy effect! It’s perfect for the product listing!”
Product Photographer: shrugs “Okay… well if that’s what you want…”
