This is probably the most fun I’ve had creating a post thus far. Writing this one cracked me up so much I didn’t know what to do with myself. It all started when this song suddenly came on and I was intentionally listening to the lyrics and wondering WTF I was listening to. I remembered the music, I remembered the vibes, I just didn’t remember the lyrics:
I feel a little embarrassed to admit I had no idea what this song was about back in the day but I remember it ending up on one of my favorite playlists so I must’ve vibed with it on some level or another. One might think the song’s name would’ve been an *obvious* giveaway, but nope, one brain cell issues.
“Somebody gotta be on top” to which I ask on top of what? The Empire State building? Mount Everest? And then the line, “I wanna take you down naughty street tonight” to which I ask can you please just drop a pin on that street on Google maps and link me? I can’t seem to find it and I don’t want to end up on the wrong street. Also the line, “I be strokin, that’s what I be doin” to which I ask what are you stroking? A beard? A cat? A painting? I have questions. Lots of them.
I guess I really should’ve paid more attention to the lyrics back then but whatever it’s fine, I was young. Just shocked listening to the song again recently and discovering what’s actually being described through the lyrics. I’m glad I’m older now and have gained an additional brain cell to help me understand things a bit better as I really do love R&B but sometimes they just need to leave my innocent mind alone 😔
